This presentation was delivered by La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council’s Na Joomelah TIS team. It discusses the co-design of their Vape Vaporiser character with local young people for their anti-vaping campaign.

Ready. Quit. Solid. – Galambila Aboriginal Health Service

This presentation was delivered by Galambila Aboriginal Health Service’s Ready.Quit.Solid. TIS team. It discusses the process of developing their new ‘Ready.Quit.Solid.’ branding, and highlights the new videos from their anti-smoking and vaping campaign with actor and comedian, Steven Oliver.

The Koori Way – Victorian Aboriginal Health Service

This presentation was delivered by Ethan Penrith and Tindarra Hood from the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service’s The Koori Way TIS team. It discusses the Victorian TIS model; their re-branding to The Koori Way; their youth program; video tutorials and VR; events; supporting other TIS teams; their approach to marketing; merchandise; and plans for the upcoming year.

We Breathe – Grand Pacific Health

This presentation was delivered by the We Breathe TIS team from Grand Pacific Health. It provides information on their team; the previous Butt Out Boondah branding; the rebranding process; Nani Creative and Sean Kinchela (Local Famous); the meaning behind the new We Breathe branding; consultations; the new artwork by Sean Kinchela; the final logo design; World No Tobacco Day and the brand launch; brand application; how they measured the success of the rebrand; and what’s next for We Breathe.

National Best Practice Unit Tackling Indigenous Smoking (NBPU TIS) update

This presentation was delivered by NBPU TIS Program Officers Nathan Kropinyeri and Onike Williams. The presentation provides an overview of the NBPU TIS including the consortium structure; staffing; recent activities; the TIS website; and upcoming events.

NBPU TIS: Very Brief Advice (VBA)

This presentation from the NBPU TIS’s Dr Thrishila Parshu Ram, discussed Very Brief Advice (VBA) for smoking and vaping and how to provide it. The presentation also highlighted the new videos from the NBPU TIS on how TIS Workers can provide VBA to their communities.

NBPU TIS: TIS Website Update and TIS App Brainstorming

This presentation was delivered by Renae Bastholm and Ashleigh Parnell. The presentation discusses how TIS Workers can access information on the TIS Website to support them in their work, as well as a brainstorming session on the TIS app that is in development for the TIS Workforce.

NBPU TIS: Workforce Development – Building a Preventative Health Workforce to Tackle Indigenous Smoking

This presentation was delivered by Kerindy Clarke and Darren Green. The presentation covered workforce training and development for TIS; training opportunities provided by NBPU TIS; the workforce framework project; what was found; and the next steps: consultation and consolidation.

The presentation provides information on the team at CIRCA; the TIS Program as a logic model; and CIRCA’s process and outcome evaluation of the TIS program.

This presentation was delivered by A/Prof Raglan Maddox. It provides information on Thiitu Tharrmay; Indigenous-specific evidence on tobacco control and why it is needed; the context of tobacco use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; e-cigarettes and confused messaging; how ANU is evaluating the TIS program; smoking prevalence; anti-smoking attitudes, knowledges and beliefs; smoke-free behaviours; locally tailored, culturally safe communication; and information on the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.

Department of Health and Aged Care

This presentation was delivered by the Department of Health and Aged Care. The presentation provides information on the broader health policy context; supporting Government priorities; and an update on grant agreements.

WA/SA/NT/ACT TIS Jurisdictional Workshop 12-13 March 2024 – presented by TIS Coordinator, Professor Tom Calma AO

This presentation was delivered by Professor Tom Calma AO at the 2024 WA/SA/NT/ACT TIS Jurisdictional Workshop. Information covered in the presentation includes the objectives of TIS; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander smoking rates; overview of TIS Program processes; the TIS Program going forward; what grant money can and cannot be used for; vaping reforms; and updates on cancer screening.

National Best Practice Unit Tackling Indigenous Smoking (NBPU TIS) update

The presentation was delivered by Maxine Turner from the NBPU TIS. It provides information on what the NBPU TIS is; how the NBPU TIS works with grant recipients; the NBPU TIS consortium structure; and a wrap up of 2023.

This presentation was delivered by the South Australian West Coast ACCHO Network (SAWCAN) TIS Team. The presentation provides information about their team; their involvement in a campaign to encourage smoke-free pregnancies; and anti-vaping activities.

Central Australian Aboriginal Congress

This video was presented by the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress TIS team. It includes information on their team members and shows the activities they’re doing in their community to promote smoke-free spaces. It discusses the positive partnerships they have created to take smoke-free spaces beyond cars, homes and workplaces and into the community.

Bega Garnbirringu Health Service

This presentation was delivered by Bega Garnbirringu Health Service’s TIS team. The presentation provides information about their team; Goldfields Rehabilitation Services Incorporated; STARS Foundation Kalgoorlie; Clontarf Football Academy; events the team has attended recently; Eddie Betts Foundation clinic; NAIDOC Week march and opening; outreach activities; and the team’s work at schools in the region.

The presentation provides information on the activities they have carried out in 2023-24, including preventing and supporting young people from the uptake of smoking through leadership and role models in the community; smoking education lessons at Burringurrah Remote Community School; educating pregnant women and families about the dangers of smoking; and GRAMS TIS Remote Community Road trip.

Cancer Council WA: Clear the Air Vaping Campaign

This presentation was delivered by Anupriya Sharma, Libby Jardine and Saira Rind from Cancer Council WA. The presentation provides information on their new vaping prevention campaign – Clear the Air and discusses the background of the campaign, the campaign website and timings, campaign resources, and the current policy landscape. They also shared a vaping bill advocacy campaign stakeholder toolkit.

Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation

This presentation was delivered by the Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation TIS team. The presentation provides information on their team members; their TIS service area; engaging youth in Yaka Ŋarali education: a holistic approach; monitoring and evaluation; promotional materials for social media; and the resources they have used.

Katherine West Health Board

The National Tackling Indigenous Smoking Workers Workshop was held from Tuesday 2 April to Thursday 4 April 2019 in Alice Springs. This workshop was one of the largest gatherings of TIS workers, partners, experts and supporters of the TIS program.
